Prince Harry’s ‘Hatgate’ Apology Comes With A Twist

Prince Harry’s latest attempt to blend in at an American sporting event has spiraled into a full-blown international spectacle.

The Duke of Sussex found himself at the center of what’s now dubbed “Hatgate” after he was caught wearing an LA Dodgers cap during the World Series while the team was facing off against Canada’s beloved Blue Jays.

In a recent interview with CTV News, the Duke tried to put out the flames of the baseball cap backlash with an apology and a dash of humor.

“Oh, the LA Dodgers hat, hatgate,” he began. “Firstly, I would like to apologise to Canada for wearing it.”

He went on to explain how he ended up in enemy colors, saying, “Secondly, I was under duress, there wasn’t much choice, I was invited to the LA Dodgers box or the dugout by the owner himself, so I thought I was doing what was the polite thing to do.”

To make amends, Harry pulled out a Blue Jays cap and placed it proudly on his head, promising to wear it from now on to “make sure I don’t make any more of those mistakes.”

However, in true Harry fashion, he couldn’t resist adding a joke.

He said, “But the other piece to this was… when you’re missing a lot of hair on top and you’re sitting under floodlights, you’ll take any hat that’s available.”

The prince admitted that despite appearances, his baseball loyalties weren’t entirely misplaced.

“Through Game Five, Game Six, and Game Seven, I was Blue Jays throughout,” he said, before quipping, “Now that I’ve admitted that, it’s going to be really hard for me to return to Los Angeles.”

While many saw “Hatgate” as lighthearted fun, others found it surprising that the royal couple, now LA residents, would back a team over Canada.

Meghan Markle’s connection to Toronto runs deep; she spent seven years there filming “Suits” and often spoke warmly about the city.

“It is like my home,” she told Best Health magazine in 2015. “At the onset, I didn’t know what to expect, but everyone has been so welcoming.”

Prince Harry, too, has ties to the country. He once trained with Canadian forces during his military service, and Canada remains a Commonwealth nation.

The royal couple appeared cheerful, but their choice of team did not sit well with Canadian fans.

Since the Dodgers were facing the Toronto Blue Jays, many Canadians viewed their support as a snub.

The sight of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in full Dodgers gear felt especially surprising to those aware of their strong connections to Canada.

For some, it appeared as though they had abandoned the country that once welcomed them for their new American home.

Online reactions were swift and critical. One user asked, “Will he be wearing his LA Dodgers hat?” while another remarked, “A week late.”

A harsher comment read, “Stop giving free publicity to an extremely wealthy, extremely privileged, extremely spoiled, narcissist, who was disloyal to his own father, who just happens to be the King of Canada.”

Another stated, “He’s a Dodger fan. Stay away! I did like him. My feelings have changed.”

Canadian baseball fans aren’t the only ones taking aim at Harry and Meghan.

Tensions are reportedly growing between the Duke, Duchess, and Hollywood insiders, who claim the once-celebrated couple is quickly losing favor in the entertainment world.

Since stepping down as working royals in 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have tried to cement their place in showbiz through various TV and podcast projects, but many have fallen flat.

A Hollywood insider told Page Six, “There’s no appetite left for them in LA,” adding that “people are sick of them.”

The source alleged that the Sussexes’ presence had become stale, explaining that they had worn through any goodwill they had.

Even their high-profile deal with Netflix reportedly lost its luster after being downgraded from a $100 million multi-year agreement to a first-look deal.

Another industry source blamed their alleged decline on poor professionalism, saying, “They’re just hopeless in professional settings.”

The insider claimed the couple once arrived late to a Netflix meeting and that Prince Harry demanded a cup of hot chocolate from an executive.
