General Hospital puts Carly Corinthos Spencer (Laura Wright) playing Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna) by secretly working with Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) to destroy Jack. But is the WSB chief actually playing Carly? He’s running his own devious scheme. And he has been for a while.
It’s Belynda from Soap Dirt and we’re going to talk about how Jack might be using Carly to get to Jason Morgan (Steve Burton). That might be the goal of this long con that I think he’s running on her. Before we dig into it, please hit that subscribe if you’re not already following us.
Jack Brennan’s Deceptive Recruitment of Josslyn into the WSB on General Hospital
All right. So, right now we’ve got Carly in cahoots with Valentin to put Jack behind bars and just destroy him because she’s desperate to get Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) out of the WSB. And Carly’s upset because Jack recruited Josslyn into the WSB behind her back.
Of course, that was itself kind of a long con because Jack had set up Josslyn to stalk and take down Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober). He was feeding her little information about Dex Heller (Evan Hofer) and then about Cyrus. And when Jack put Josslyn in Cyrus’ path, he absolutely put Josslyn’s life in danger multiple times. Jack was experimenting. He was testing Josslyn to see if she would kill Cyrus. And she didn’t disappoint. But she could have been killed herself, and he didn’t seem to care.
This was Josslyn’s revenge, of course, because Cyrus killed her boyfriend, Dex. And it was Jack testing to see if Josslyn could be a ruthless and homicidal WSB agent. So, all this time, Jack’s been lying to Carly’s face. This has gone on for months, even when she gave Jack the chance to come clean about Josslyn. But I’m really, really convinced that Jack may be conning Carly and has been betraying her from the start.
GH Shocker: A Look Back at Jack’s Kidnapping Plot
If you remember from the time Brennan came to Port Charles, back when Charles Mesure was in the role, he had his eye on Carly and it was always about people she associated with, but most specifically Jason (Steve Burton) was a top interest of Brennan’s. If you recall, Jack was going to kidnap Carly, but Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) arrested him and she caught him with the full serial killer kidnap kit.
You know, the zip ties, I think he had chloroform, he had all this stuff. He was sent to Pentonville but he didn’t stay there very long. Insanely, absolutely insanely, Carly forgave Jack for his kidnap plan. And you know, that’s a huge red flag. Like almost the biggest red flag you can imagine about a man. It’s pretty clear to see that Carly has been a target of his for a while, but I think Jack decided to play a long con of seduction and romance and impressing Carly with favors.
Valentin Cassadine Exposes Jack’s Long Con and Ulterior Motives
Recently, Valentin was asking Carly how she even got involved with Jack. and she told Valentin about the evidence that Jagger Cates (Adam Harrington) from the FBI had on her for RICO charges where she had admitted at that one mob meeting that she was running the Corinthos organization and Jagger used it as leverage to get Jason to dodgy undercover deeds for him on General Hospital.
And then Valentin shocked Carly when he said, “You know, Jack’s probably the one that kept you out of prison by deleting that RICO evidence that Jagger had.” Valentin also convinced Carly that every time Jack has saved her from some situation or has done her a favor, it’s been for his own benefit. And Valentin also thinks Jack hasn’t told Carly that he took care of the RICO evidence because he’s waiting for a really good time to use that info.
Is Jack Spying on Carly? The Mystery of the Bugged Necklace on General Hospital
So yeah, it looks like Jack has been playing Carly and using her this whole time while betraying her and lying to her face and pretending to be her hero. And I think his long con target might be Jason because we know Jack is desperate to put him to work for the WSB doing Black Ops assassinations. Who knows what? Basically, Brennan wants Jason to do for the WSB, the same kind of stuff that Jagger had Jason doing for the FBI.
I’m also wondering, just this crossed my mind, if that necklace that Jack gave Carly is bugged or there’s some nefarious reason for it. Because when Jack gave it to her, he was asking her these questions like, “Why aren’t you at work? Where have you been?” And it is a really small little necklace. It looks almost like a diamond pendant, but it could have a microphone in it. some kind of mini mini high-tech microphone or even a GPS tracking tracking chip. Remember Valentin was looking at the necklace as well. I don’t think it’s big enough for a camera, but when I saw him give her this, it triggered this memory.
Carly’s History with Franco on General Hospital
Remember when Franco gave Carly that ugly evil eye necklace and it had the hidden camera inside? If you recall, Franco was using the ugly eyeball cam to spy on Carly. Found out she was cheating on him with Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). And also that’s how Franco found out Sonny killed AJ Quartermaine (Sean Kanan) and that Carly was covering for him.
And then on Franco and Carly’s wedding day, Franco played the video of them discussing AJ’s killing which horrified Michael Corinthos (then Chad Duell) who was at the wedding. That was Franco’s big payback for Carly’s cheating. So Jack giving Carly this necklace out of the blue just got my wheels turning because of the stunt Franco pulled. And we know GH loves to repeat plots.
The Ultimate Betrayal: Using Carly to Blackmail Jason Morgan on GH
And that also had me wondering exactly what Jack’s up to where Carly’s concerned because I don’t think it’s true love. I don’t think he’s after a happily ever after. And there’s just so many red flags. Jack went from plotting her kidnapping to sliding into her sheets, recruiting her daughter Josslyn into the WSB. And Carly’s always running to Jack with her secrets and her problems. And he’s always happy to solve them and doesn’t ask for anything in return.
I tend to think maybe he’s building some kind of dossier of information that he can use against Carly in this long con I suspect he’s running. I feel like Jack is a spider and he’s been spinning this sticky web and Carly doesn’t even realize how well that he has insnared her. The good thing is she is finally suspicious of Jack in general, but I don’t think Carly’s suspicious enough. She’s so focused on getting Josslyn out of the WSB and the lies he told that I don’t think she’s seeing that Jack has a bigger picture endgame. And I don’t think it’s to run away with Carly and, you know, be husband and wife and love each other forever. Jack is basically, I think, working a honeypot scheme on Carly with himself as the trap.
General Hospital: Jack Determined to Recruit Jason
If you recall, Jack tried to recruit Jason into the WSB more than once. He tried to get Anna to help him, I believe. And Jack would love to have an agent with Jason’s skill set. Plus, Stone Cold was working as a mercenary for Pikeman when Jack used to run it back when Jason was undercover for the FBI and under Jagger’s thumb. So, Jason would be a great agent, but he’s also refused Jack every time he approached him about the WSB and Jason hates Jack.
So, I kind of wonder if Jagger was Brennan’s inspiration for this long con scheme. Since we know Jason won’t work for Jack willingly, we also know that he could be blackmailed into it if Carly’s at risk. Brennan may not have deleted that RICO evidence the FBI had. Jack might have just stolen it so he can use it as a last-ditch plan to get what he wants and he definitely may use it once he finds out Carly’s been conspiring with Valentin. Everybody knows Carly is one of Jason’s few vulnerabilities and I don’t think Jack would hesitate to threaten Carly to get what he wants from Jason.
Mission Over Love: Is Carly Just a Pawn in Jack’s WSB Endgame on General Hospital?
Another red flag recently was a conversation Jack had with Josslyn and Jack told Josslyn that he’s trying to teach her nothing is more important than the mission. So Jack’s WSB mission could be the reason he’s romancing Carly. Maybe Jack cares about Carly. Maybe he doesn’t. But even if Jack has fallen for Carly, I don’t think he would put her before the mission. And I think in the end she is a pawn in Jack’s endgame. So we’ll see how it plays out.
