Mikayla Tan swam to a new Winter Juniors West meet record on the final night of competition in Austin, posting a 2:06.74 in the 200 breaststroke. That broke the previous West meet record of a 2:06.81 set by Lydia Jacoby back in 2022.
Split Comparison
| Tan | Jacoby | |
| 50 | 28.69 | 27.85 |
| 100 | 32.26 | 32.31 |
| 150 | 32.81 | 33.06 |
| 200 | 32.98 | 33.59 |
| 2:06.74 | 2:06.81 |
Jacoby was out faster than Tan, but Tan was able to hold under the 33-second mark on all four 50s while Jacoby was above the 33 second mark on the back half of her race.
With Tan’s swim today, she now sits at #2* all-time in the girls 15-16 age group, although it is important to note that Tan has already represented Singapore at the international level. Only Alex Walsh has been faster in the age group as Walsh swam a 2:06.45 back in March 2018. Walsh notably holds the overall Winter Juniors meet record as she swam a 2:06.02 at the East meet in 2018, when she had already turned 17 years old.
Tan entered the meet with a lifetime best 2:08.74 that she swam just last month. She has dropped almost three seconds in the last year as she swam a 2:09.58 for 3rd in the event at Winter Juniors West a year ago.
